Summer Fair of Quarteira
The Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve joins again this entertainment program, this time with a show integrated in the Summer Fair of Quarteira.
Founded in 2004 by jazz trumpeter Hugo Alves, the artistic director since then, it is the only professional jazz orchestra in the South of the country, whose acclaimed musical value makes it one of the best Portuguese jazz orchestras.
In addition to the original compositions and arrangements, it presents a vast and diverse repertoire, from authors such as C Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, or even thematic ones such as Latin or Bossa Jazz.
It has hosted several national and international musicians such as Harrell (USA), Silje Neergard (NOR), Rick Margitza (USA), Bobby Medina (USA), Antonio Ciacca (ITA), Guto Lucena (BRA), Lars Arens (GER), Greg Burk (ITL), Luís Cunha (POR), Peter King (UK), Maria Anadon (POR), Arturo Serra (SP), among many others.
The orchestra’s discography has three acclaimed albums, and in addition to the countless concerts in Portugal and abroad, the jazz festivals that it produces and has produced over the years has some of the most recognized actions among the public.
