Cobbled Streets – Art takes to the Street
The Historical Centre of São Brás de Alportel will be staging the fifth edition of “Calçadas – A Arte sai à Rua” (Cobbled Streets – Art takes to the Street), which will take place on 14th August.
Music, dance, poetry, theatre, design, sculpture, photography, handicrafts, confectionery and other bites to eat are the ingredients of this initiative, which is organised by the Municipal Council of São Brás de Alportel, in partnership with the “Comissão Calçadas” (the "cobbled street" committee), an informal group from the São Brás community; every year, they devote themselves on a voluntary basis to the organisation of this event, which takes art out into the streets in the historical centre of the town. The initiative is one of the activities that make up the Plan for the Revitalisation of the Historical Centre of São Brás de Alportel.
Admission to the event is free, and visitors are invited to enjoy the artworks at every step along the cobbled streets of the Historical Centre of São Brás.
From the streets, it will also be possible to discover the windows of the Historical Centre that are participating in the second challenge, "The most beautiful window". A competition that encourages people to decorate the windows of their houses and shops in the Historical Centre in an original and creative manner for the event. The winner will have a photograph of their window, balcony or shop window displayed on the cover of the cultural agenda “São Brás Acontece”.
